My home state of Maine was on mind while painting “Unlocking Within.” I had recently booked a flight to Portland and was thinking of my family’s cabin on a remote lake in Washington County; the greens of the shaded forest, the clear spring fed lake we swam in and drank from, and the pale pink of spring mayflowers emerging from the still snow covered ground. The red figure is perhaps the partial silhouette of an old spruce or an imaginary key unlocking forgotten memories.
